Meet Our Team of Registered Music Therapists

Founder & Principal Music Therapist

Grace Chan

RMT, NMT™ | Master of Music Therapy (UQ) | Bachelor of Social Work

I’m Grace, the founder of Musicgrace, and a Registered Music Therapist and Neurologic Music Therapist. I’m fascinated by the unique capacity of music to impact people’s behavior and emotions.

I'm passionate about making music

I have loved music from an early age. I studied piano to an advanced level and have extensive experience as a piano teacher. I have been a pianist and accompanist for local churches and community choirs, and I’m also a proficient accompanist on guitar. My favorite type of music is classical.

I care for communities

I began my career as a social worker and have been actively involved in community work locally and internationally, including in Thailand, Hong Kong, America, and mainland China. For five years, I worked with Everglow Community Care Links Inc. in Townsville, Ingham, and Ayr. I collaborated with various community organisations and other allied health professionals to create music therapy programs for people living in the community, to promote health and wellbeing in North Queensland.

I pursue professional excellence

I hold a Master of Music Therapy (University of Queensland) and a Bachelor of Social Work (Hong Kong Polytechnic University). In 2014 I was appointed as the Community Liaison Officer of the Australian Music Therapy Association, and my first article was published in the Australian Journal of Music Therapy. During the same year, I was awarded a professional scholarship to the World Congress of Music Therapy in Austria.

I founded Musicgrace in 2016 with the aim of bringing high-quality music therapy services to the community in Brisbane.

I’m fluent in English, Cantonese, and basic Mandarin.

I have more than 15 years of experience as a Music teacher and Music Therapist working with children and families with special needs, such as Autism, ADHD, Global Developmental Delay, and Cerebral Palsy, as well as in aged care facilities and early education centers.

As a music therapist, I believe in the power of music and love as a unique tool for facilitating people’s needs and inspiring others. I’m a joyful, caring, and creative person who develops a trusting relationship with others effectively in the music therapy setting.

Music Therapist

Jason Fitzgerald

RMT | Master of Music Therapy (Uni of Melbourne)

I’m Jason, a Registered Music Therapist. I graduated with a Master of Music Therapy at the University of Melbourne. I come from a musical family and have been playing music for most of my life, predominantly as a singer-songwriter. Guitar and voice are my primary instruments.

I have long been inspired by the unique healing potential of music. I have experience practicing in various disability, mental health, and aged care settings, addressing a diversity of individual and group needs.

I value a person-centered and collaborative approach to music therapy practice and goal setting. I am especially passionate about harnessing music to improve mental health, and the collaborative use of music to empower people and support wellbeing.

Music Therapist

Josie Harcourt

RMT | Master of Music Therapy (Uni of Melbourne) | Bachelor of Music (Honours)

I’m Josie, a Registered Music Therapist. I hold a Master of Music Therapy from the University of Melbourne, and a Bachelor of Music (Honours) in violin performance from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music.

As a music therapist, I am passionate about bringing the strengths, abilities, and resources of each person I work with to the forefront. I value working in collaborative and respectful ways, supporting both individuals and groups to tap into specific therapeutic benefits as they engage with music. I also consider myself a music therapy bookworm, or nerd if you prefer! This is because I like reading research, especially on the topics of mental health recovery and music therapy in aged care.

When I’m not wearing my music therapist ‘hat’, I enjoy working as a strings teacher, playing violin in my community orchestra, and playing guitar in Sunday school.

Music Therapy Assistant

Shanna Goh

Bachelor of Music (Honours)

I’m Shanna, a music therapy assistant at Musicgrace. I am on my way to becoming a registered music therapist as I currently pursue my Master of Music Therapy at the University of Melbourne. I obtained my Bachelor of Music (Classical Voice) at the Queensland Conservatorium, with my primary instruments being voice, piano and guitar. Having been a musician most of my life, I have always believed in and witnessed music’s ability to heal and connect. I am keen to combine my musical skills with my interest in psychology to support and empower others in a meaningful way. I have been thoroughly enjoying the hands-on experiences as a music therapy assistant, which go hand-in-hand with the extensive learning I am doing at university.
